Donald Trump is now the favourite to win the US election as results roll in across America on the most unpredictable election night in American history.

In what could be a bigger shock than Mr Trump’s sensational victory in 2016, all eyes are on the vital swing states of Florida, where the president is on track to win, and Ohio, where the polls are neck and neck. But Mr Biden appears to be leading in Arizona.

More than 100 million Americans voted early in the US presidential election, indicating the highest turnout in more than a century after a fractious race for the White House.

US presidential elections are determined by electoral college numbers; California with 55 electoral votes is the biggest prize.
