There was tension at the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command after a police corporal allegedly killed his girlfriend, who was also a serving police officer, before taking his own life.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 9 p.m. on October 23, 2026, at the police quarters in Ajaokuta.

According to a source quoted by SaharaReporters, the officer, identified as Corporal Amos, was posted as station guard and resumed duty at about 6 p.m. He was said to have left his duty post a few hours later and went to the residence of his girlfriend, identified as Corporal Grace, also serving in the division.

It was there that he allegedly shot her, leading to her death, before taking his own life with his service rifle.

The source linked the incident to alleged relationship crisis, claiming that both officers had been in a romantic relationship for several years but had been having disagreements over trust issues in recent months.

According to the account, their disagreements had previously resulted in interventions by senior officers at the division, including the Divisional Crime Officer, who reportedly advised them to end the relationship in the interest of peace.

The source said, “He reported on duty at about 6 p.m. and disappeared a few hours later and went straight to Grace’s quarters. Both of them had been dating for some years now, but few months ago, they started having trust issues.”

As of the time of filing this report, the Kogi State Police Command had yet to release an official statement confirming the incident, and the circumstances surrounding the deaths were yet to be independently verified.

The remains of the deceased officers were said to have been deposited in a morgue, while further investigation is expected to be carried out by the command.
