The chief of staff to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Segun Ogunwuyi, has resigned his appointment ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

Ogunwuyi’s resignation was contained in a letter dated Oct. 12, 2026, in which he said the decision took effect immediately.

Ogunwuyi, a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and the House of Representatives, expressed gratitude to Makinde for the opportunity to serve.

“I respectfully write to resign my appointment as Chief of Staff to the Governor of Oyo State, with effect from today, 12th October, 2026,” he wrote in the letter.

“Serving the Government and the good people of Oyo State has been a great honour. It has been deeply fulfilling to be part of the exceptional team that has worked relentlessly to deliver the remarkable achievements of this administration,” he said.

His departure comes amid the exit of several aides of the governor from the state government in the past two months.

Ogunwuyi did not state a specific reason for his decision in the letter but said he remained proud of the administration’s achievements and confident in the state’s continued progress.

Spokespersons for the Oyo State government did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
