Aragba community, near Orhuwhoru town in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has been thrown into mourning after a passenger train plying the Itakpe–Warri route today, Thursday, August 12 crushed a mother and her daughter to death.

According to Advocate.ng, the incident occurred around 3:40pm in the Aragba.

The woman, a moi moi hawker and her teenage daughter were walking on the rail tracks when the unfortunate incident happened.

Though details of the incident were sketchy at the time of filing this report, sources said on hearing the sound of the train, the daughter tried to pull her mother out of the tracks, but was not quick enough as she was knocked down alongside the mother.

The train ran over the woman but it appeared that the daughter was knocked-off the rail tracks where her body laid.

The accident apparently occurred on a constrained and elevated area of the track which may have contributed to their inability to escape.

It was gathered that the train was bound for the Ujevwu Train Station in Udu and scheduled to return to Itakpe in Kogi state this evening.

A source at the train station disclosed the train was yet to return as youths of the area had allegedly mobilized to the spot of the accident.

Acting Delta Police spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe has not commented on the accident at thevtime of filing this report.
