Speaker says award reflects governor’s piety and faith-driven leadership
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on being named “Christian Icon of the Year” by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
Oborevwori received the award on Saturday at CAN’s 50th anniversary celebration at the National Christian Centre, Abuja. It was presented by CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, in recognition of his public service, integrity and commitment to Christian values.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor said the honour reflected Oborevwori’s piety, humility and demonstration of Christian values in public service.
He said the governor had led Delta State with the fear of God and a commitment to equity and service.
“By this national acknowledgment from the Body of Christ, you have once again brought pride to Delta State,” Guwor said.
Guwor, who is also Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, spoke on behalf of his family, his Warri South-West constituency and the Delta State House of Assembly.
He said the award affirmed Oborevwori’s faith-driven leadership and people-centred approach to governance, adding that the House had witnessed his commitment to unity and progress in the state.
He prayed that God would grant the governor wisdom to fulfill his agenda for the state.
Governor Oborevwori, a former Speaker of the Delta Assembly and ordained Elder of the Living Faith Church, has consistently identified his Christian faith as central to his leadership style.
The Christian Icon Award is one of CAN’s highest honours for lay leaders.
