Agbarha-Otor, the country home of business magnate, Olorogun Michael Ibru, and the first civilian Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ibru has been submerged by flood; with residents of the community groaning as their homes and farmlands are completely destroyed by the flood which is not letting up.

A community leader, Mr. Alfred Awhirhe who spoke to a Punch reporter, lamented that Agbarha-Otor has been suffering yearly from flooding due to poor drainage system in the community.

He called on the state and federal governments, as well as well-meaning Nigerians to “come to the aid of Agbarha-Otor before the ravaging flood sweeps away the entire community”.

Also speaking on the causes of the flooding, Mr Arierhi Ogbagah, noted that the drainage systems within and around the town were poorly constructed, adding that some property developers in the town either built their houses or fish ponds on the waterways.

He urged the state government and the Ughelli North Local Government Council to deploy officials of their environmental taskforce to the community to avert further damages to the agrarian community.
