Kidnapped final year student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, (LAUTECH) Rachael Opadele and hotelier Olugbenga Owolabi have been reportedly shot dead by the kidnappers after allegedly collecting N5 million as ransom.
Rachael was kidnapped last Thursday at Abaa community in Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State.
It was learnt that the families of the victims effected the payment of the ransom through an established link, who went to the kidnappers’ hideout along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin expressway on a motorbike, popularly called Okada to deliver the ransom.
Perhaps, anticipating arrest by the soldiers deployed to monitor the security situation in the Ogbomoso area, the gunmen became suspicious of the link man.
It was gathered that after collecting the demanded sum, the kidnappers shot the victims, the link person and the Okada rider.
The victims allegedly died on the spot while the Okada rider escaped with bullet wounds. He is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso said an update would be provided.
