Gunmen on Tuesday, August 3, abducted a landlord at Freshville Estate off Okuokoko in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State.

The gunmen reportedly gained access to the estate by scaling the fence of Campus II of Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) Effurun at about 1:00am and operated unhindered for hours amid sporadic shootings.

It was learnt that the gunmen overpowered the security personnel attached to the estate.

Lamenting the incident, the residents called on Delta State Commissioner of Police to beef up security in the area to prevent the constant attack by criminals.

“Our lives are no longer safe. We have been helpless since 1am when the bandits struck. They have been shooting and moving from house-to-house. One of the landlords who is an oil worker has been kidnapped”, a resident said.

It was gathered that residents of Freshville Estate have been facing attacks by gunmen for several months now, with many landlords and tenants moving from the area – out of fear of the daredevil criminals.

When contacted, the police public relations officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said he has not been briefed on the incident.
