The Delta State Police Commissioner, Hafiz Muhammed Inuwa, said to have ordered the arrest of an Imam in Ekakpaure Community, Ughelli South Local Government Area for allegedly flouting the lockdown order by the state government.
Real-Time24 reliably gathered that the CP ordered the Divisional Police Officer of Otujeremi Police Division to arrest the Imam, who held a Jumat prayer with other Muslim faithful last Friday in the community.
Impeccable sources revealed that the Delta Police Commissioner confirmed the order to arrest the Imam in a telephone chat with newsmen.
The Imam allegedly aided by military men was said to have threatened the Otujeremi Divisional Police Officer with a knife when the Police attempted to arrest him.
There have been concerns about the ease with which Christian clergies who conducted church services were arrested by security agents in the state whereas their muslim counterparts were allowed to worship without any hindrance.
The arrest on Sunday of Pastor Beauty Michael, the founder of Hour for Jesus Worldwide, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area, brings to five the number of Christian clergies arrested in the Warri/Uvwie area of the state, for flouting the stay-at-home or lockdown directives by the state government.
