A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was killed on Monday in Ibadan, just days after reporting to her place of primary assignment, when an articulated truck rammed into multiple vehicles around Agodi Gardens, behind the Oyo State government secretariat.

Several other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in the incident, officials said.

Eyewitnesses said the truck had earlier crushed several vehicles around the Sango area before speeding towards Agodi Gardens in an alleged attempt to escape.

“The truck driver had reportedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi. The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” an eyewitness said.

The crash caused heavy traffic gridlock around Sango and Agodi Gardens, forcing motorists to take alternative routes as emergency responders cleared the scene.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) who arrived at the scene said the injured victims had been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The identity of the deceased corps member and the number of injured persons had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report. It was also unclear if the truck driver had been arrested.

The FRSC said investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the crash.
