A rare throwback photograph captures Nyesom Wike with his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Wike, during their days at the Nigerian Law School in the late 1990s.
Wike graduated with a law degree from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology in 1997 before proceeding to the Nigerian Law School for the 1997–1998 session. Eberechi, who later became a Justice of the Rivers State High Court, would go on to build a distinguished career in the judiciary.
Wike’s own journey took a political path. In 1999, he began his political career as Chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), serving two terms until 2007. That same year, he became Chief of Staff to then-Governor Rotimi Amaechi, a position he held until 2011.
In 2011, Wike was appointed Minister of State for Education, later serving as Acting Minister of Education until 2014, when he resigned to contest the governorship of Rivers State.
From 2015 to 2023, he served as Governor of Rivers State, earning the nickname “Mr. Projects” for his extensive infrastructural developments.
In August 2023, Wike made history with a cross-party appointment as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, under an APC-led government, a role he continues to hold.
