
It was excitement and a cause for celebration for the Chairman, Delta State Internal Revenue Services (DIRS), Sir (Chief) Monday Onyeme over the victory of Team Delta at the just concluded 20th edition of National Sports Festival held in Benin City, Edo State, from April 2 to 14, 2021.
Team Delta came top of the table with 158 gold, 116 silver and 110 bronze.
Sir Onyeme while congratulating the sportsmen and women for their victorious representation of Delta State, noted that they made the state and our dear governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa proud.
He emphasised that the huge investments of the administration of Governor Okowa in sports have continued to yield desired results as Delta State has been on top of the chart since the past 6 years of Okowa’s administration.
The DIRS Chairman wished the participants more victory in their future endeavours and urged them to remain focused and train more to achieve continuous improvement in future competitions.

He said; “I want to seize this opportunity to congratulate the Team Delta for their wonderful outing at Edo National Sports Festival. This victory is a repetition of history because our dear state has been maintaining lead in this event over the past 6years of Governor Okowa administration.
“I must also say a big congratulation to my Boss, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Okowa for not allowing the State Sports Commission to lack sporting facilities. Our Governor and the entire staff of the Delta State Sports Commission deserve huge accolades for all they do in getting Team Delta ready for great victory year by year”, he added.
Sir Onyeme also said; “With the standard stadium at Asaba (Stephen Keshi Stadium) completed by our Governor, Team Delta now has a good facility to train ahead of future completions. We all know that Delta is a winning state and will remain so all through the administration of Governor Okowa”.
Monday Onyeme also encouraged young Deltans to take interest in different sporting activities to give the state competitive advantage during future competitions.
