Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said on Thursday that the Federal Government of Nigeria was using “everything possible” to prevent him from running in the 2027 election.

“Today, the Federal Government is doing everything possible to stop me from becoming a candidate in this 2027 election. I can tell you for a fact, they won’t win,” Obi told reporters at Madonna University in Anambra State.

His comments came hours after the Federal High Court in Lokoja vacated an earlier judgment that had ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.

The court gave no immediate reason for setting aside the order. INEC’s website showed the NDC was not listed as a registered party as of Thursday evening.

Obi was the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election and finished third behind President Bola Tinubu.

He announced in 2025 that he would seek the presidency again in 2027 under the newly formed NDC.

The Presidency and INEC did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Obi’s allegations.

Video of Obi’s remarks was shared on social media following his appearance at the university.
