Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was the subject of a “willful misunderstanding” after social media posts reduced her remarks on small business grants to; “First Lady Says Fry Akara To Survive,” her office said on Thursday, according to an X post by Pastor Okezie James Atani@Onsogbu.

“It is costing us,” the statement accompanying her briefing said, adding that Tinubu was urging citizens “Do Not Wait For MANNA From Heaven! Start Where You Are, And Here Is A Grant, Not A Loan, To Help You Take Off!”

In the briefing monitored Thursday, Tinubu said small enterprises such as akara, roasted corn and kuli-kuli “do not take millions to set up” and that her office would provide grants, not loans, to interested Nigerians. She also listed health and social disbursements, including “Two Billion Naira To Tuberculosis Care Initiatives, One Billion To Breast Cancer, Half A Billion To Malnutrition, Alongside Scholarships, ICT Training And Agriculture Support.”
