Today, we celebrate a man whose life journey is one of resilience, courage, and determination, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, as he turns 74.
Born on April 4, 1952, in Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole’s story is one that inspires hope, especially for young Nigerians who dare to dream beyond their circumstances.
His early life was humble and modest. Like many Nigerians from rural communities, he understood hardship early and embraced hard work as a way of life. Before the national recognition, before the political influence, and before the leadership titles, Adams Oshiomhole worked as a tailor, learning the dignity of labour and the value of perseverance.

In 1986, he was recognized as the second-best tailor in Kaduna, representing the textile industry, his journey took a new turn when he joined the labour movement. His courage, boldness, and ability to speak truth to power quickly distinguished him. Through dedication and commitment, he rose through the ranks to become President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), where he became widely known for defending the rights of Nigerian workers and standing firm against policies that affected the masses.
As labour leader, Oshiomhole became a symbol of resistance, justice, and hope. His fearless advocacy earned him national recognition and strengthened his reputation as a man of the people.
In 2008, Comrade Oshiomhole began another defining chapter when he became the Governor of Edo State. His administration focused heavily on infrastructure development, education reform, healthcare improvement, and urban renewal.
Under his leadership, roads were constructed across Edo State, schools were rebuilt and modernized, healthcare facilities received major improvements, civil servants and pensioners experienced better welfare
Beyond infrastructure, his leadership style stood out. He was known for his close relationship with the grassroots. He moved freely among the people, visited communities, and maintained a strong connection with market women, youths, artisans, and traditional leaders.
After his impactful tenure as governor, he went on to serve as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he brought discipline, grassroots political experience, and strong leadership to the ruling party.
Today, at 74, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole continues to serve Nigeria as Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District. In the Senate, he remains outspoken, bold, and committed to advocating for the welfare of Nigerians.
One of his most defining qualities remains his grassroots love and support. Despite holding some of the highest political offices in Nigeria, he remains accessible, relatable, and deeply connected to the people.
From a tailor’s shop in Iyamho to becoming a labour leader, governor, national chairman, and now a distinguished senator, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s life is a powerful example that humble beginnings can lead to extraordinary achievements.
At 74, he remains energetic, influential, and committed to service.
Happy 74th Birthday, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole.
Your life continues to inspire.
