In Bazoulé village, Burkina Faso, crocodiles, one of the deadliest predators in the animal kingdom are worshipped and played with.
The villagers have a unique, sacred relationship with the animal – viewing them as protectors, venerating them as a god and even ride on their backs!
They believe that crocodiles led them to a hidden water source during a drought centuries ago, and hold an annual festival called Koom Lakre to honour them – making supplications to the animals for health, prosperity, and good harvest.
The unique relationship between the villagers and crocodiles, still confounds animal behaviourists and the general public.
