Motorists and commuters plying the Igbide-Olomoro link road in Isoko South local government area can now heave a sigh of relieve following the intervention of the member representing Isoko South 2 Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Ferguson Onwo.
Concerned about the plight of the road users, Hon Onwo mobilized materials and equipment as a palliative measure to the very busy road, which has been in a deplorable condition for months.
The lawmaker donated a trailer load of stones, 50 bags of cement and cash for hiring of heavy duty construction equipment including Pay-loader to assist in ensuring that the road is motorable as quickly as possible.
Describing the extent of disrepair as colossal, Hon Onwo promised to seek permanent solution to the problem, even as he appealed to the state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to help ensure that the road is captured in the next state budget.
He stated that the bad state of the Igbide- Olomoro link road had adversely affected the social economic lives of the people, stressing that the road requires reconstruction.
Hon Onwo emphasized that the bad condition of the road had hindered free-flow of traffic and had caused untold hardship to commuters plying the route.
The lawmaker commended the President-General of Igbide community, Dr. Patrick Oboghor for drawing his attention to the extent of damage on the road and to the people of Igbide community for the earlier repairs.
He acknowledged that many of the people are predominantly famers and require motorable road to evacuate their farm produce, hence the urgent need for repairs of the bad spots to ease movement.
“Our people are suffering as movement from Igbide to Olomoro has become a night mare. We are approaching heavy raining season and the situation will be worse. A lot of us are farmers and with the present condition of the road, it has been difficult moving farm produce to markets.
“I was briefed about the pains our people are passing through daily and I decided to come and inspect the road and see what can be done to mitigate their suffering,” Onwo explained.
The President-General of Igbide community Dr. Patrick Oboghor expressed gratitude to Hon Onwo for his intervention and pledged the community’s support to the lawmaker to succeed.
