Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission says it is yet to decide on the postponement of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections or adjust the timetable.
The INEC had on 6th February 2020 released the timetable and schedule of activities for both elections to hold in September and October 2020 respectively.
In a press release signed by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, the electoral body said, it is mindful of the negative impact of the coronavirus disease and also monitoring the various efforts by the Federal and State governments, health authorities and other stakeholders to contain the spread and eradicate the disease.
It further disclosed that if and when the need arises to adjust the time-table for the elections, same will be conveyed to the public in the usual manner as it will continue to study the situation carefully and cooperate with other stakeholders in the battle against the COVID-19.
