A lot has been said on the “Large Size Convoy” that followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from Lagos Airport to his residence.
While the criticisms are valid, it is important to make some clarifications.

  1. The official vehicles of the president and principal aides make up less than 10% of the motorcade, according to a source.
  2. The other vehicles in the presidential motorcade belong to several state governors, heads of all security agencies, party leaders, political associates and other supporters of the president who were at the airport to receive him. It’s erroneous to assume all the vehicles are the president’s.
  3. Being the first time President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will visit Lagos after being sworn in as president, the excitement of his return energized the support base to turn out in their massive numbers to welcome him.
  4. Also, the convoy was that large because President Tinubu was a Senator from Lagos, a two-term governor of the state, a philanthropist who has large political base at the local, state and national levels.
Apparently, they were at the airport to receive and be part of his first homecoming after taking the reins of office.
  • See video of the convoy and compare with that of US Vice President, Kamala Harris.
