A drunk policeman whose name was yet to be released by the Enugu Police Command, Sunday shot five persons to death in Enugu, Enugu State.
Four others sustained gunshot injuries.
It was gathered that the drunk Police Inspector opened fire indiscriminately, hitting the victims.
The Enugu State Police Command, in a statement by its spokesman, Daniel Ndukwe, said the officer, attached to the RC Lotto Company at the Golf Estate, GRA, has been arrested.
“Four of the persons said to have sustained gunshot injury are receiving treatment.
“Five others whose injuries were critical have been confirmed dead by doctors and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy,” the police said.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, visited the injured victims at Enugu State University of Technology (ESUT) Teaching Hospital, and empathised with them.
He said, his administration would bear the medical expenses; and made a deposit money to the hospital towards the treatment.
