…cart away unspecified sum of money
Heavily armed bandits on Tuesday, February, 23 attacked a bullion van of a first generation bank at Utulu-Ubulu-Okiti axis along Benin–Asaba expressway, as per press release by the Delta State Police Command.
According to the release signed by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP. Edafe Bright; the police escort to the bullion van engaged the bandits in a gun duel, but unfortunately, one of the officers, Inspector Sunday Ogar was fatally wounded. He was certified dead by the Doctor on duty at the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba where the wounded officers were rushed to.
Two other officers who were also wounded in the gun duel, were treated and discharged.
“Two of the bandits were fatally injured but were taken away by their gang members.
“Unspecified amount of money was reportedly carted away. However, the incident is under investigation to unravel those behind the dastardly act and to ascertain the amount that was carted away.
“Further development will be communicated. Meanwhile, manhunt for the bandits is ongoing to bring them to justice”, the release stated.
