• Hansard department beats other state assemblies, African delegates in Abuja
The Delta State House of Assembly has won the National Assembly Golden Mace Trophy at the Annual Delegate Conference of the Association of Official Reporters of Nigeria held in Abuja.
The Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor, received the trophy in his office in Asaba on Tuesday from the Hansard Department which represented the House at the conference.
Guwor, who is also Chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, commended the department for making the state proud and for sustaining the Assembly’s reputation as a vibrant legislature.
He urged the Hansard staff, also known as Official Verbatim Reporters, to see the award as a challenge to sustain excellence, stressing the critical role of Hansard in preserving legislative history and integrity.
Guwor assured the department of continued support and charged the staff to remain committed to accuracy, confidentiality and global best practices.
“I am truly delighted that you have made Delta State proud. This trophy is not just a symbol, it is evidence of competence, diligence and the vibrancy that Delta Assembly is known for. You have represented us excellently,” he said.
Presenting the trophy, the Director of Publications Department, Louis Osiadi, said the award was won in keen contest with colleagues from other states’ House of Assembly in Nigeria and other African countries.
Osiadi attributed the feat to the enabling environment and purposeful leadership provided by the speaker and the management of the Assembly. He thanked Guwor for his support.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke, said a letter of appreciation from the Association of Hansard/Verbatim Reporters of Nigeria signed by its President, Gobina Drisu, was also handed to the speaker.
The presentation was witnessed by the Clerk of the House, Otto Aghoghophia, the Deputy Clerk for legislative matters, Silvester Olorogun, and other Hansard staff who participated in the conference.
The conference was held at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja from September 6 to 12, 2026, and featured legislative engagements including debates, official reports rendition and format, chamber protocol and stages of bills.
The Hansard Department of the Delta State House of Assembly distinguished itself throughout the sessions and emerged winner of the trophy in recognition of legislative vibrancy.
