The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has absorbed over 1,000 young professionals into full-time roles after a one-year internship, training and performance evaluation.
GCEO Bayo Ojulari announced the deployment on Thursday, calling it a milestone in NNPC’s workforce renewal drive.
According to him, the recruitment was strictly merit-based.
“Different paths, but the same door. And we opened it. That’s what NNPC Limited stands for today: not who you know or where you’re from, but what you can do,” Ojulari said.
He noted that while offer letters granted entry, performance during the internship determined who was retained.
“Their offer letters got them in, but their work this past year kept them here. They proved themselves day after day, under real pressure. That’s the standard we’re building: Talent. Hard work. Fairness.”
Ojulari urged the new staff to contribute ideas, own their growth, and later create opportunities for others.
The deployment aligns with NNPC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen capacity following its transition to a commercially oriented energy company under the Petroleum Industry Act.
NNPC had announced the recruitment in July 2024 under former GCEO Mele Kyari.
There was no statement on the interns who probably did not meet the standards of the programme.
