A commercial bus driver, Ifeanyi Okwuaja, has been arrested for allegedly deliberately ramming his bus into a stationary truck, an act that killed one passenger and injured several others on the Onitsha-Lagos route.
Okwuaja, who drives for Abia City Mass Transit, was arrested in his hometown in Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, after fleeing the scene of the crash.
A viral video of the incident alleged that the driver had a heated argument with a passenger seated next to him during the trip. The narrator in the video claimed that Okwuaja threatened the passenger before intentionally swerving the bus into a stationary truck around the Ijebu-Ode area of Osun State.
One passenger died instantly, while others sustained injuries.
The video also alleged that the driver did not report the incident to police after the crash.
The police, in collaboration with the transport company, traced Okwuaja to Imo State and arrested him.
Confirming the development on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Command, Okoye Henry, said investigations into the alleged deliberate act are ongoing.
