…residents urged to ensure active participation
The Delta State Government has announced a statewide environmental sanitation exercise for Saturday, July 25, 2026, with vehicular and human movement restricted across all 25 Local Government Areas between 7:00am and 10:00am.
This was contained in a circular issued by the Ministry of Environment and signed by Anaro Benedict, Deputy Director, Sanitation and Waste Management, on behalf of the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Ogodo.
The circular, addressed to all 25 LGAs Chairmen through Heads of Department, Environment, directed immediate mobilization and sensitization ahead of the exercise.
The Ministry urged residents to clean their surroundings, stop indiscriminate waste dumping, register with accredited PSPs for waste evacuation, fumigate premises and clear drainages
as well as clear overgrown vegetation.
The circular added that the Honourable Commissioner and relevant government agencies will monitor compliance across the state.
LGAs have also been directed to mobilize for waste evacuation and set up mobile courts to prosecute sanitation offenders during and after the exercise.
The monthly sanitation is part of the state government’s effort to maintain a clean, healthy environment and prevent flooding during the rainy season.
Only those on essential duties will be exempted from the movement restriction, the circular stated.
