Senior Pastor and founder of Kingsway International Christian Centre, KICC, Matthew Ashimolowo, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears committed to addressing Nigeria’s challenges, but stressed that meaningful progress will require broader systemic reforms.

In a video that has circulated widely online, the 73-year-old cleric stated that he believes the President is well-intentioned and has the experience to lead, but noted that Nigeria’s difficulties are rooted in long-standing institutional weaknesses.

“I believe we have a president who is ready to fix this nation. I believe he’s seen it all and I believe he is well-intentioned. The system is broken, so you can’t fix the presidency and leave the system untouched,” he said.

Ashimolowo argued that public discourse has often centred on electing capable leaders, while less attention has been paid to building strong institutions that can sustain development regardless of who holds office.

He further said that until Nigeria’s systems are corrected, no administration can achieve lasting transformation on its own.
