Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the reconstruction of Effurun Roundabout to NPA Road, a major transport corridor critical to movement, commerce, and port-related activities in the Warri-Effurun axis.

The project is part of the administration’s MORE Agenda, which prioritizes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

Since assuming office in 2023, the administration has flagged road and infrastructure upgrades as central to driving economic growth and improving urban mobility.

The Effurun Roundabout-NPA Road serves as a primary link for commuters, traders, haulage operators, and businesses connected to the Nigerian Ports Authority facility in Warri. It handles heavy daily traffic, including trucks servicing the port and industrial facilities in the area.

Years of heavy usage and inadequate maintenance have left sections of the road deteriorated, contributing to congestion, longer travel times, and higher transport costs for traders and commuters. The corridor is also a gateway to the Warri Industrial Business Park and other commercial zones.

According to the state government, the reconstruction will ease transportation challenges by expanding capacity and improving road surface quality, support businesses by reducing logistics delays for traders and transport operators; as well as boost traffic flow, accessibility along the corridor and
Strengthen port and industrial activities tied to the NPA facility

“The approval further reflects Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to delivering infrastructure projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents while driving sustainable development across the state,” the government said in a statement.

The governor’s MORE Agenda has prioritized road construction and rehabilitation across Delta’s three senatorial districts. Previous projects under the agenda include the ongoing dualization of the Ughelli-Asaba Road, flood control works in Asaba and Warri, and upgrades to rural feeder roads to connect farming communities to markets.

The Effurun-NPA Road project is expected to complement other ongoing works in the Warri-Uvwie axis, where the administration has also focused on drainage and urban renewal to address flooding and traffic bottlenecks.

No timeline or contract value was disclosed in the announcement. The state government said details on the contractor and project schedule would be released after due process.
