•The State of Chicago USA, Nigeria, and Qatar got to the finals of the competition.

Delta State team has won the World Schools Debate Championship held in Qatar, Middle East.

Nigeria won 2-1 in the first round against host Qatar, and then 3-0 in the final round, bringing the total 5-1 to emerge winner.

The Chairman, Delta State Universal Education Board, SUBEB, Hon Samuel Marierie led the youngsters from Delta State to Qatar to represent Nigeria for the World academic competition.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, had last week received the team at Government House, Asaba, prior to their trip to the competition. He prayed with them and charged them to ensure, they bring the trophy to Nigeria.

The team members: Wisdom Chukwuma, from Government College, Ughelli;
Otorvo Uyoyou, from Alegbo Secondary School, Effurun;
Abraham Honour, from Okpaka Secondary School, Okpaka; Ekhamateh Splendour, from Government Model Secondary School, Asaba and Alika Daniel, from Utagba-Ogbe Grammar School, Kwale ensured that the coveted debate trophy was brought home.

The students’ win is a testament to Delta State’s commitment to education under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration. The governor fully sponsored the students’ trip to the World Schools Debate Championship as part of his MORE Agenda initiative.
