The Obi of Nsukwa Kingdom, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, HRH Obi Kenneth Ezegbunem (JP)
has called on the state government to intervene in the crisis threatening peace and security in the kingdom.
The Obi told journalists that certain individuals and groups were taking advantage of the king’s peaceful stance to foment trouble and create divisions in the community.
Speaking on the matter, Obi Ezegbunem expressed deep concern over the escalating situation, warning that if urgent steps were not taken, the peace and unity that the community has enjoyed for years could be jeopardized.
According to him, despite his continuous efforts to maintain harmony, some youths and influential individuals have been instigating conflict.
He also urged those in political positions who are contributing to the crisis to put the interests of the community above personal ambition.
Several chiefs, including Chief Alexander Chidi, Austine Odozie, and Chief Felix Bolu, commended Obi Ezegbunem for his leadership and commitment to fostering peace and inclusivity. They appealed to the youth to embrace unity, stressing that only through peace can Nsukwa attract meaningful development.
Echoing similar sentiments, some community youths, including Mrs. Faith Osademe and Mr. Sabastine Olisekwu, emphasized the need for the elders to provide positive guidance. They noted that young people look up to their leaders and will follow in their stead.
Reacting to the situation, the Delta State Commissioner for Technical and Vocational Education, Hon. Smart Ijeoma Ufoh, underscored the importance of peaceful coexistence in Nsukwa. He described the king as the leader and peace ambassador of the kingdom and urged him to continue fostering unity among all groups.
Hon. Ufoh also appealed to the youths to avoid divisive tendencies and embrace dialogue, adding that “a family divided against itself will not know peace and progress, but in unity, development will thrive.”
As the crisis unfolds, members of the community continue to hope for swift government intervention to restore lasting peace in Nsukwa Kingdom.
