One evening, a grandfather and his grandson sat by the fire. The flames danced as the grandfather stared at the starry sky, his gaze full of wisdom.
The grandson, curious as ever, asked him:
“Grandpa, why do I sometimes feel angry for no reason, and other times I’m happy? Something is always happening inside me, but I don’t understand what.”
The grandfather smiled and, after a long breath, replied:
“You see, there is a battle going on inside each of us. It’s as if two wolves lived inside you. One is evil: he is full of anger, envy, jealousy, sadness, arrogance and selfishness. The other, on the other hand, is good: he brings joy, love, peace, hope, humility and kindness. These two wolves clash every day.”
The grandson, with his eyes wide open, imagined the two wolves fighting. Then, in a thin voice, he asked:
“And which of the two wins, grandpa?”
The grandfather looked at him, placing a hand on his shoulder, and calmly replied:
“The one you feed the most, my little one. Remember: the wolf you choose to feed will grow stronger and control your heart.”
The boy remained silent, thinking about his grandfather’s words, and from that night he began to pay attention to which wolf he was feeding.
