“A fisherman, while fishing east of the Farallon Islands (just off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California), spotted a whale completely trapped in a fishing net

The fisherman radioed for help and, within a few hours, a rescue team arrived. They found that the whale was so badly entangled that the only way to save it was to dive, cut the ropes and free it… a very dangerous operation, given that a single blow of the tail could have killed a rescuer. They worked for hours with curved knives and finally freed her.

When it was finally free, divers say the whale swam in what appeared to be joyful circles. Then he returned to each of them, one by one, gently nudging them to thank them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience they had ever had.

The man who cut the rope from his mouth said that the whale’s eye followed him the whole time and that he will never be the same again.

May you be lucky enough to be surrounded by people who will help you free yourself from what binds you. And may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.”
