Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the Republican Party ‘a cult’ under former President Donald Trump’s leadership
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claims that members of the Republican Party have told her they want to see Donald Trump and J.D. Vance defeated in the 2024 presidential election.
According to Pelosi, some Republicans have approached her and said, “You have to beat them in the general because we can’t beat them in the primary. And then we will come back to our debate on the issues.”
The California congresswoman, 84, made her comments during an Aug. 7 interview with MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell.
“The Republican Party has been hijacked, and it’s now a cult, and they should take it back because a republic needs a strong Republican Party,” Pelosi told Mitchell, adding the GOP had previously done “great things” for the country.
“So, in any event, we just have to win the election,” she concluded.
Pelosi — who is seeking reelection to the House in 2024 — endorsed Kamala Harris for president on July 22, calling her “a champion for working families, notably fighting for a woman’s right to choose.”
“Politically, make no mistake: Kamala Harris as a woman in politics is brilliantly astute,” she continued. “And I have full confidence that she will lead us to victory in November.
Pelosi has been speaking with media this week promoting her new book, The Art of Power, which covers her political career and offers her perspective on the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, and the distressing home invasion that took place in her San Francisco home back in 2022.
