Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers and armed robbers attacked travellers along Warri-Sapele highway in Delta State on Friday, robbing them of money and other valuables, after shooting one person dead.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, set up roadblocks and proceeded to rob victims of cash and other valuables.
The hoodlums reportedly operated on the road from 6:30pm to 8:30 pm, while injuring some travellers and forcibly taking their belongings.
It was gathered that one of the travellers who made efforts to run away from the robbery scene was shot by the criminals.
However, he was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, some other persons who sustained injuries at the robbery scene were taken to the Oghara Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Confirming the incident, the Delta Police Command spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said, “We are aware, and the DPO and his men swiftly went there. The armed robbers, however, escaped into the bush. But we are on their trail.”
