Governor of Sokoto State Ahnad Aliyu has denied that the state government has initiated process to dethrone the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR.
Responding to Shettima’s comment on the need to protect the Sultan of Sokoto State through his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, the governor said Shettima should have contacted him to verify the news which made rounds on the purported plan to depose Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar before going public.
Governor Aliyu said the fact of the matter is that there was never any attempt to sack the Sultan.
He added that the Sultan enjoys all the powers he is entitled to and that the state government have never denied him any of his freedom or rights.
However, a public affairs commentator, Saheed Odutola said that the Vice President, Kashim Shettima is too immersed in the administration to circulate rumours, adding that “there’s no smoke without fire”.
He advised state governments to always respect the sanctity of monarchs in their domains.
