• “Okowa has begun building political structure to unseat Senator Ned Nwoko, the Senator Representing Delta North by planting his stooges at the council.”
Delta PDP may be drifting into crisis over Okowa’s ambition to control the party in the state, a socio-political group; Action Caucus has warned.
The group warned that except the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) called the immediate past Governor of the state, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to order over his overbearing plans to impose council chairmen in the forthcoming LG poll, the party may be immersed in crisis.
In a press release endorsed by the Coordinator, Action Caucus Tetsoma Ayemidejo and Secretary, Elozonam Ugboma, and made available to newsmen Wednesday in Asaba, the group called on well-meaning Deltans to rise up against unhealthy absolute control of godfathers in the state to forestall Delta State from experiencing similar political debacle in Rivers State.
They noted that Okowa’s high handedness, especially in the affairs of running the state, if not urgently checkmated, may snowball into crisis of dire consequences in the state.
The release further stated that Okowa has begun building political structure to unseat Senator Ned Nwoko, the Senator Representing Delta North by planting his stooges at the council.
In a statement also stated that the former Governor’s action is impeding the Delta State Governor’s efforts at delivering the much dividends of democracy to the people of Delta State.
According to the group, the issue seems to be undermining the office of the Governor who is the political leader of the PDP in the state.
They also noted that Okowa has concluded plan to force his cronies as chairmen and other positions for the poll across the state.
“The reason for this is not far-fetched; Okowa has not hidden his intention to go back to the senate come 2027.
“His preparation towards the ambition started as soon as Oborevwori was sworn in as Governor of Delta State where he (Okowa) single handedly handpicked almost all the Commissioners as well as other key positions for the incumbent Governor.
“Of course, he was instrumental to Oborevwori becoming the governor just as someone else was instrumental to him (Okowa) also becoming the governor, but his benefactor was not on his neck in the running of the state affairs.
“Okowa should let Oborevwori be by assuming the status of an Elders Statesman in Delta State and not a godfather”.
The group claimed that it was the former Governor’s ambition that contributed immensely to the PDP misfortune in the 2023 Presidential election.
