A couple with a 37-year age gap has claimed they are expecting their first child together by surrogate.
Cheryl McCain, 63, a grandmother of 18, and her 26-year-old husband Quran from Georgia announced they will welcome a baby into the world soon and shared photos of a positive pregnancy test as well as an ultrasound.
After a long search for a surrogate, the couple finally found one and confirmed the pregnancy.
Cheryl said: “It was an amazing feeling to find out we were going to have a baby. We get to start our own family. I am the happiest now than I have ever been before. It will make our family so much happier as we will love the baby unconditionally.”
Quran added: “I cried with tears of joy when I found out. This will be my very first child. I have never felt love like this apart from the time I got married to Cheryl.”
Quran continued: “Baby girl or baby boy it doesn’t matter. I am having a baby and we are starting our life together. Even though Cheryl won’t be the biological mother, blood doesn’t make you family and she will be the best mom.”
Users online were quick to share their opinions on the controversial couple’s announcement.
One person wrote: “I want to know how this is possible – like logistically how is this happening.”
Another said: “I don’t know what to say, except I hope things work out.”
Others were more supportive, with one person writing: “Oh my God, people ages just a number. As long as they love each other leave them alone.”
Cheryl said she first met Quran when he was only 15 years old when they were both working at Dairy Queen. While they said there were no romantic feelings at the time, they hit it off when they met again in November 2020 at a gas station.
Quran had been 23 at the time, and after weeks of spending time together, he eventually confessed to Cheryl that he had feelings for her. They began an intimate relationship in April 2021.
The couple said their large age gap was not an issue for them, but it seemed to be a problem for Cheryl’s children.
Cheryl said: “I have seven kids but I only see one of them as the others do not support our relationship. It hurts me, it hurts me a lot. They were my whole life and all of a sudden I wanted to be married to someone I had fallen in love with and they didn’t support that. I have 18 grandchildren and I only see three of them.”
Quran proposed to Cheryl in July 2021 and the pair tied the knot the following September in a small ceremony surrounded by two friends.
Cheryl said: “We didn’t invite anyone to the wedding as nobody was there for us. It was me, him and our two friends. We left everyone out and we were happy.”
Quran added: “It made the day very special for us. We get a lot of negative comments and we don’t care about them. We didn’t make it this far caring about what people think about us. To keep ourselves happy we stay off the internet – we don’t need that negativity.”
