A school teacher from Michigan locked herself in the tiny bathroom of a trans-Atlantic flight for five hours after she learned she had COVID-19 while in the air.

Marisa Fotieo was flying from Chicago to Iceland on Dec. 20 when she started to feel her throat getting sore, according to a report.

She was able to get her hands on a rapid test and “within what felt like two seconds” learned she had COVID-19, Fotieo said.

“There’s 150 people on the flight, and my biggest fear was giving it to them,” she said.

With five hours left on the flight, Fotieo said she thought the best course of action would be to hide in the plane’s bathroom until it landed.

Fotieo captured the experience on camera and posted it to TikTok, and the video has garnered over 1.5 million likes.

“Shout out to @Icelandair for my VIP quarantine quarters..” she captioned the post.

A flight attendant, Ragnhildur “Rocky” Eiríksdóttir, checked on her in the bathroom and brought her snacks and drinks, according to Fotieo.

Upon exiting the plane, Fotieo exchanged information with the flight attendant and proceeded to isolate at the Red Cross hotel in Iceland.

Eiríksdóttir brought her a Christmas tree and gifts so she wouldn’t be lonely during the holiday, Fotieo said.

Eiríksdóttir was “truly an angel on this Earth,” she posted.
