Delta state Police Command has arrested s young man identified as Emma Ere-Eganoma over an attempt to murder his mother, Mrs Oke for ritual purposes in Okuokoko community, Okpe council area of Delta state.
Sources from the community alleged that the heinous attempt was carried out when he invited his mother to his house.
Although detail of the incident was still sketchy at the time of filing this report, it was gathered that the suspect had invited the mother who sells foodstuffs in Okuokoko market to “see a surprise”, but unknown to the victim, his son’s plan was to kill her for ritual.
It was also learnt that the mother, on getting to the house saw her son in merry mood – with loud music from his stereo set.
The young man reportedly locked the door to his apartment, brought out a machete to kill his mother.
His mother was said to have screamed which attracted the neighbours. They broke down the door, rescued her and handed over the son to the police.
The woman is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
Confirming the incident, Delta State Police Command noted that until the mother recounts what actually transpired, the Police cannot say if the son meant to kill her for ritual purpose.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said,
“The boy is in custody, but we cannot ascertain if he was about using the mother for ritual because the mother is in the hospital.
“We are waiting for her to be discharged so she can tell us what happened. The boy said he was not using her for rituals. He just had some flimsy explanation, but we can’t come to a conclusion until we hear from the woman”. DSP Edafe, stated.
