• Says ‘The woman with the purple hair played terribly’, in an attack on Megan Rapinoe after bronze medal win

Thought you’d seen the end of Donald Trump? Think again. He’s been keeping busy by criticising the US women’s soccer team during the Olympics, a pastime that hit new heights after their win over the Matildas on Thursday night.

In beating the Matildas, the US national team won an Olympic bronze medal. But according to Trump, if they weren’t “woke” and led by “leftist maniacs” they could have won gold.

The US women’s soccer team, captained by Megan Rapinoe, has long been a target of the former president and the fact that they didn’t win a gold medal at the Olympics seemed to bother him no end.

“If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said in a statement after their win over Australia.

“Woke means you lose, everything that is woke goes bad, and our soccer team certainly has. There were, however, a few Patriots standing. Unfortunately, they need more than that respecting our Country and National Anthem,” referring to the team’s decision to kneel before the game to draw attention to racism.

Trump, who last year lost the US presidential election to Joe Biden, took particular issue with Megan Rapinoe, who has long spoken out against his divisive politics.

“The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics and not doing her job!” he added, referencing Megan Rapinoe.

There’s not telling if Trump is very familiar with the game, as Rapinoe played impeccably, scoring two goals for the US against Australia. One of her goals included a spectacular volley that only a highly skilled athlete is capable of performing.

To date, the US women’s soccer team have won four World Cups and four Olympic golds. Last night, they added a bronze to their collection. The extent of Trump’s athletic prowess remains to be seen, although in 2010, he did tell MTV he was supposed to a professional baseball player. But some of his high-school baseball stats would suggest otherwise.
