…because of a quarrel with his wife

Following a quarrel with his wife, a man allegedly smashed his eight-month-old daughter to the ground repeatedly till she died in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district in India. The man has been arrested following a complaint filed by his wife.

According to the police, the incident took place at Rahatpur Khurd village under the Mandawali police station area of Bijnor district on July 31.

The accused, Mohammad Nazim got married to Mahtab Jahan from Rahatpur Khurd village one and a half years ago and they had an eight-month-old daughter. However, the couple used to have regular arguments.

Following one such argument, Mahtab left her husband’s house and started living at her parents’ house a few days ago. On the night of July 31, a drunk Nazim arrived at his wife’s parents’ house and demanded that their daughter be sent back with him. When Mahtab refused, the couple started fighting again.

Suddenly, an enraged Nazim allegedly picked up his daughter and repeatedly smashed her on the floor till the child died. Mahtab took the child to a private hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Mahtab then filed a complaint with the police who arrested Nazim on August 1. “Nazim was arrested early on Sunday morning and sent to jail,” Dharamveer Singh, Bijnor superintendent of police, said.
