There was pandemonium in Delta State University, Abraka on Sunday as a student, Stephen Odje of Biochemistry Department was shot dead; and two other students, Divine Omajuwa and Jennifer Hamza Hussiena of Geology and Pharmacology departments respectively, were abducted by suspected cultists.
It was gathered that the deceased, Stephen Odje had just returned to campus to begin the 2020/2021 academic session when he was shot dead.
The incident occurred at about 9:00pm at Oria community, a short distance from the university town of Abraka.
The cause of the killing and abduction was still murky at press time, but there are insinuations that the incident is cult-related.
The Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor Chukwujindu Iwegbue, who confirmed the incident, urged security agencies and the general public to make efforts to ensure that the abducted students are released, and the assailants arrested.
