- Obaseki’s former adviser brutally attacked
The unity that led to victory for Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State in the last gubernatorial election under the umbrella of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), is gradually eroding, according to sources in the party.
Many party faithful are believed to be working at cross-purposes, with accusations of intransigency levelled on the leadership of the party in the state – part of the problems threatening the resolve of the party to deliver on the campaign promises of the Obaseki’s administration.
Ripples of the crises are beginning to emerge, the most recent being the attack on a former Special Adviser to Governor Godwin Obaseki on political matters, Mr. Edo Aguebor who was on Wednesday, June 16, beaten to stupor by suspected thugs.
The incident which occurred at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Egor Local Government Area of the state may not be unconnected to the crises bedeviling the party in the state.
At the scene of the incident, helpless party men and women wailed uncontrollably and in utter shock and disbelief at the ugly scenario. Hoodlums repeatedly punched Mr. Aguebor who was later taken to a public hospital for medical attention.
The incident caused disruption of vehicular movement around Uselu, Shell and New Lagos road axis.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, Mr. Ede Aguebor, appealed to the law enforcement agencies, the leaders of PDP and the State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to wade into the crisis in Egor Local Government Area.
“I am calling on the PDP leaders and the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to come to our aid in Egor Local Government.
“Today (Wednesday), we were invited to the party Secretariat to come and apply for those of us that are interested in the appointment. I went there with my Certificates, Curriculum Vitae and other documents. When we arrived the venue for screening, we meant a very rowdy session. Chief Olaye, members of his National Union of Road Transport Workers thugs were all there.
“So, I quietly stood by my car and began to wait for them to invite us into the Secretariat one by one. The next thing I saw Olaye with his younger brother, Osaretin and they started to beat me.
“They broke my head, they injured me and destroyed my car. They took my original Certificates away, my ATM card that was in my pocket and shoes. They also took my glasses and the money away. Is this is all I get for going to apply for appointment?”, he asked.
