Armed bandits have attacked Amarawa village in Ilela Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Monday, March 1, killing ten persons, inflicting injuries on others, and a wealthy businessman abducted.

It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the village on motorbikes, kidnapped the businessman, but the villagers tried to rescue him.

BBC Hausa reported that the gunmen had warned the locals to stay away but they refused and attempted to free the man.

In the efforts to rescue the businessman, the attackers overpowered the locals, killing many – including one man identified as Rabiu Mika Ilu before whisking the businessman away.

The police in Sokoto have confirmed the attack but told the BBC Hausa they could not give details as investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the dead have been buried, while those that sustained gunshot injury were rushed to the hospital where doctors extracted bullets from their body.
