Criminals suspected to be kidnappers have struck again along the now dangerous Effurun–Ughelli road in Delta State, killing a bus driver and passengers of the 18-seater bus he was driving.
It was gathered that the suspected kidnappers ambushed the Toyota Hiace bus along the ever-busy Effurun-Ughelli expressway on Sunday, November 28.
It was further learnt that the criminals shot several times at the bus, leading to the death of the driver, and leaving the passengers in panic and without route for escape.
The passengers were rounded up by the kidnappers and led into the bush.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Hafiz Inuwa confirmed the incident, according to
Daily Independent.
The Ughelli-Effurun highway has been notoriously designated a hot spot of kidnappers and robbers. Just a month ago, several commuters were kidnapped along the road, and many had to pay ransom for their freedom.
