Two persons are reportedly feared killed in Mosogar town, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State after a rival cult groups’ clash.
Several persons were alleged to have sustained injuries during the attack.
However, the Police while confirming the incident, said nobody was killed during the clash but that injuries were recorded.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Thursday night when one of the cults’ group avenged an earlier attack on a member.
One of the victims was said to have been axed to death by the armed-wielding cultists.
The second victim was alleged to have been shot at close range.
Unspecified number of persons also sustained varying degrees of injuries.
It was further gathered that the clash was between members of Eiye Confraternity and Vikings.
Although, the cause of the clash was still sketchy at the time of filing this report, locals told Real-time24 correspondent that it was a supremacy battle between the groups.
The cultists were said to have engaged in a fight on Thursday afternoon, where two members of a rival cult group were injured.
The group whose members sustained injuries in the afternoon fight were alleged to have launched the night attack.
Sources said those injured in the attack included residents who are not members of any of the groups. They have been rushed to different hospitals and are receiving treatment.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the cult clash.
She said five persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, adding that those injured are receiving treatment in hospitals in the area.
The police spokesperson added that she was not aware if anyone was killed in the attack.
