The Delta State government has sealed the bars of three renowned hotels in Asaba for breaching COVID-19 protocols in the state.
The bars sealed by the State Taskforce on Covid-19 containment led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, were that of Hampton Towers, Golden Tulips and Vienna International Hotels.
They were sealed by the taskforce because they were crowded without any sign of social distancing, while most of the guests were not wearing face masks.
Ebie, decried the rising cases of Covid-19 in the state and warned hotel
operators to adhere to the directives of not opening their bars and restaurants
to people who were not guests in the hotels.
He emphasised that guests should buy drinks and food and take them to their rooms.
Addressing the press after the enforcement exercise, the SSG explained that it
was essentially to check the level of compliance with the directives given to
check the spread of Covid-19.
Speaking on the rising cases of Covid-19 in the state, the Taskforce chairman
said it was as a result of aggressive contact tracing, disclosing that in a particular
case, there were 9 persons from one compound.
