Western Delta University, Oghara in Delta State has reached out to its host communities in Ethiope West Local Government Area with food items to cushion the effects of the lockdown directive aimed at curbing the spread of the deadly Coronavirus pandemic.
The gesture by the university is in response to the call by the state government for individuals and organisations to contribute towards assisting the people particularly the poor during the lockdown.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Otete Okobia noted that supports from well to do Deltans and organisations were necessary complements to what the state government is doing to give respite to the people as they contend with the challenges posed by COVID-19.
She added that the university is committed to the welfare of its host communities noting that the institution will continue to do its best to assist the people.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed deep satisfaction to the management of the university as it would help to alleviate their sufferings as a result of the restriction of movements.
