The Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has been commended for his continued exemplary leadership style manifested in his several people-oriented projects, programmes and policies as well as for his resilient approach towards containing the spread of the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
The State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije who stated this in his. country home Obiaruku , Ukwuani Local Government Area, said his COVID-19 support of over eight million naira is in demonstration of his sincerity to the plights and welfare of his people of Ukwuani Council Area.
Tilije noted that contributions by well placed individuals and organisations were very important to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 particularly to the needy in the society.
While disclosing that he had distributed the sum of Five Hundred Thousand naira to each ward in Ukwuani, and an additional One Million , Five Hundred Thousand naira to other categories of the people, Tilije said that similar gesture was extended the Heads of Council of Elders as well as others known as ‘Nde Okwa”.
He urged the people not to see the lockdown by the state government as a punishment, but a deliberate measure to reduce the spread of the disease.
The Delta Finance Commissioner reminded the people of the to always maintain social distancing and regular hand washing with soap and running water as well as rubbing of alcohol based sanitizers to protect themselves from being infected by the disease.
In their remarks, some of the beneficiaries including elders from some of the wards lauded Tilije for the initiative, saying that the money would go a long way to cushion the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown in the area.
They called on other political leaders in the area to emulate the Finance Commissioner.
