After weeks of silence on the health condition of the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mallam Abba Kyari, the Nigeria government in the early hours of Saturday announced he was dead.
Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who broke the news in a Tweet said, Kyari had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment, but unfortunately died on Friday, April 17, 2020 .
“The Presidency regrets to announce the passage of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari”, said Adesina.
“The deceased had tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatment. But he died on Friday, April 17, 2020.
“May God accept his soul.Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly”, he added.
The late Abba Kyari, who was in his early 70s was survived by four children.
He was a lawyer and banker from Kanuri in Borno State and an alumnus of both the University of Warwick and University of Cambridge.
