Five persons are now in police net over the protest by residents of Sapele against the extension of the lockdown in Delta State by the state government.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, who confirmed the arrest on Thursday, said the suspects will be prosecuted according to the law.

Residents of Sapele mostly women and youths had on Wednesday morning protested the additional 14 days extension of the lock down by the state government.

The protest which initially went on peacefully later turned chaotic leading to gun shots with several injured.

It was gathered that victims of the gun shots are presently receiving treatment at the Obule Medical Center.

The governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa had on Tuesday morning extended the lockdown in the state for another fourteen days to further contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state, which recorded the fourth confirmed case of the disease on Wednesday.
